Signed to one of my favourite labels Chew The Fat, Maribou State first caught my attention last year with their track ‘Take Another Look’ . In a sea of indistinguishable releases it was so refreshing to hear something different, and it’s the reason I’ve been hooked on the London duo ever since.

Since then they’ve created remixes for The 2 Bears, Crookers and featured on the Hot ‘N’ Heavy  Destinations compilation with their track Gold Image.

On Monday they’ll release their hotly tipped Olivia E.P on Fat! Records. I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve listened to the title track in the past few weeks, and it just gets better with every play. They’ve also released a video to go with the track, which makes me wonder what it’d be like to live in a post-apocalyptic world where we are all addicted to alphabet spaghetti.

“As you know, the ladies love that “Take Care” joint, but in all honesty it’s a bit too mellow; especially when it comes to dropping it in the middle of a set.

I’ve basically added some 808s and the Think break, sped up the tempo a little bit, and given the arrangement a quick shuffle. The tune ends on a loop of the Gil Scott-Heron sample.

The end result is a slightly beefed up version, with a DJ friendly intro.”

The end result is that a ladies anthem just got totally thugged out, which means I can now play it out making the girls happy.  Who in turn will make me happy…

Enigma is a Birmingham, UK based Producer/Musician. Having  been passionate about music since the age of 5 when he began taking Cello lessons and after 15 years  had completed Grade 8 and played in a number of renowned orchestras including The CBSO Youth Orchestra, Midland Youth Orchestra and the Central England Ensemble.

He’s also a product of the Leeds College Of Music, Music Production course.

This track is a bit of a throwback for me, and I don’t think I liked the original when it was released either. Doctor Jeep has turned this into a bit of an R&B groover though, and I’m loving what he’s done with the track.

Stick your headphones in, and melt into it.

As I was writing this I also stumbled upon his Aztec EP, which he’s also giving away for FREE…can’t argue with that!

The set Mele dropped is one of the best i’ve heard this year, dare I say I enjoyed it as much as the infamous Pearson Sound/Ben UFO session. The young Liverpudlian worked his way perfectly through  classic house & techno, throwing in some UK garage & grime for good measure.

Anyway, I’m here to tell you about the song that had me joining the Soundcloud scavenge hunt. I would later find out the song in question was ‘Like That’ and it was being released by Pelican Fly on The Lights EP.

The EP dropped on Monday and it was defenitely worth the wait. ‘Like That’ is a huge track with a dark, almost haunting tone running throughout. The next track ‘Crystal Dust’ calls for gold teeth, with its huge euphoric drop it could be confused for something Lunice & Hud Mo have been throwing about…and that is a huge compliment.
